“Melissa”

The Leigh Sakoda Foundation celebrated Leigh’s birthday by making a very important grant to a 38 year old single mother in Maryland who was diagnosed with a very rare abdominal sarcoma (stomach cancer) that has relapsed multiple times over the past 5 years. She is the mother of 3 children, one of whom suffers from a learning disability. She and her family live on social security disability but due to the numerous recurrences of the disease, she faces mounting medical bills after 5 years of treatment and has exhausted all of her family’s financial resources.
