The Leigh Sakoda Foundation celebrated Leigh’s Birthday by making a very important grant to a 25 year old woman in California who was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus. After months of feeling ill, she received a hysterectomy and underwent several months of chemotherapy and radiation. She was the primary caregiver who also took care of her mother, and had to downsize her apartment to accommodate for both while they used most of their savings to pay for medical expenses and rent. Her mother has had to take time off from work to care for her, and has also had to spend her life savings in order to pay for extra medical costs. This grant will cover car payments and utility bills during their treatment, and allow them to continue to live together while during their battle with the disease.
